Stage 1 is the classic first round of mods for a Predator 212 — it wakes up the engine safely and adds a few HP. Here's what to do and in what order.

What you'll need

• Socket set
• Torque wrench
• Flywheel puller
• Thread locker

Steps

1. Add a performance air filter

   Swap the restrictive stock airbox for an open element filter so the engine can breathe more freely and pull more air.

2. Re-jet the carburetor

   More air needs more fuel. Install a larger main jet or an adjustable mixture screw to keep the air/fuel ratio correct.

3. Tune and test

   Start it up and listen. It should rev cleanly without bogging or surging. Adjust the mixture until it runs smooth through the whole range.

Mechanic's tip

Stage 1 keeps the governor and stock flywheel intact. It's a safe, streetable upgrade that adds real power without rebuilding the top end.
